SHe-Box Portal: A step towards better implementation of POSH redressal

Posted On - 9 December, 2024 • By - KM Team

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MCD) has launched ‘SHe-Box’, a portal (Portal) that will act as a central repository for information related to complaints under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) and will also enable monitoring of the disposal of the said complaints.

In this update, we discuss key features of the Portal:

  • Purpose of the Portal

Till recently there was no central database for maintaining the data on number of complaints filed and disposed of. By designating a nodal officer for every workplace for complaints on the Portal, real time data related to complaints filed with Internal Committees (IC) and Local Committees (LC) can be monitored and status of the complaint can be tracked. The Portal seeks to cover every workplace, government or private sector.

  • How the Portal works

An aggrieved woman or another individual on behalf of the aggrieved woman may file a complaint on the Portal. The complainant’s identity will remain confidential, accessible only to the chairperson of the concerned LC or IC. If filed by the aggrieved woman, she must log in with her name, workplace, work status, and contact details. If filed by an individual on her behalf, he/she must log in with their own details, relationship to the complainant, an undertaking from her along with the complainant’s name, work status, phone number, and email.

Upon accessing the Portal, the complainant is required to select the relevant LC or IC based on the workplace. Registration of workplace on the Portal has not been mandated till now, so in cases where the concerned LC or IC is not yet registered on the Portal, an online process is available to collect the workplace details from the complainant. This information will then be forwarded to the State Nodal Officer and the District Nodal Officer of the respective State or Union Territory and district to facilitate prompt registration of the IC.
